ZAKK WYLDE To Appear at 'Spooky Empire's MAY-HEM'
April 25, 2013Guitar icon and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY frontman Zakk Wylde has announced he will enter the world of fan conventions with an appearance at Spooky Empire's MAY-HEM, May 24-26 at the Rosen Center in Orlando, Florida. Wylde will be promoting and signing copies of his recently released paperback book, "Bringing Metal To The Children" (HarperCollins),as well as an array of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/Zakk-related merchandise in a massive two-day meet-and-greet.
Beginning with Wylde's "True Rocker Test," "Bringing Metal To The Children" goes on to tell stories of wild nights on the road with some of the biggest names in metal like Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Slash and "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, coaches metal lovers about tour hygiene on the road, and covers both pre-show and post-show etiquette. The book also features Wylde's tales from the record business, a look at his recording studio, and world tour survival techniques.
Wylde was announced by Spooky Empire this week, capping off a star-studded celebrity lineup that includes co-headliner Norman Reedus from AMC's "The Walking Dead". In addition, the event will feature C. Thomas Howell ("The Outsiders"),a "The Warriors" cast reunion, Zach Galligan from "Gremlins", Naomi Grossman (Pepper) from American "Horror Story", "Child's Play"'s Alex Vincent, and many more.
Convention agent Thom Hazaert of Los Angeles/Orlando-based Tillery-Hazaert Collective brought the idea of conventions to Zakk's camp, and was almost immediately inundated with offers.
"Zakk is such an iconic, larger-than-life personality. That's the thing with conventions, whether they are horror cons, comic-cons, or just general pop-culture events, there's such a broad fit," says Hazaert. "And Zakk is an especially good fit with the horror conventions, as horror and metal have always gone hand in hand. With Zakk's stature not only in the music world, but also his acting credentials in 'Rock Star', 'Aqua Teen', 'Californication', etc., and the paperback release of 'Bringing Metal To The Children', it really turned out to be a great fit for MAY-HEM."
Orlando-based Spooky Empire puts on several massively attended horror and pop-culture related fan events every year throughout Southern Florida. Past musical guests have included KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and original GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler.
